Lifting is a site-specific performance centered on the extremely slow and sustained raising of the arms. The performance unfolds as a walk through urban space, during which the same physical gesture is repeated and transformed in response to different places and contexts.

“Raising one’s hands” can signify surrender or giving up. In Lifting, surrender becomes a physical practice through which another possibility emerges: a slow process of lifting, in which resistance and vulnerability become part of the movement rather than something to overcome.

The audience moves together with the performer, becoming part of a temporary collective body. Through walking, repetition, and duration, a simple physical action transforms the relationship between body, place, and collective experience.

The work also has a two-person version, Lifting as a Couple, presented as a live sculpture.
